What you need:

You will only need 2 ingredients for this fantastic DIY hair mask!

*A trick to see if the honey is of good quality, is to take a pot of honey in your hands and turn it upside down. Usually there is a bubble of air in the honey that will go upwards. If this bubble moves very quickly, the honey has probably been heated and is therefore not ‘raw’. If it moves slowly, the honey has not been heated and therefore still contains all natural occurring vitamins and minerals. I learned this trick from the explanation of a beekeeper!

How to mix and apply the mask:

  • Add 1 part honey to 2 parts conditioner. For example: 2 tbsp of honey and 4 tbsp of your favourite conditioner without silicone or protein for medium to long hair. Adjust the mixture as necessary for your length.
  • Mix the two until blended into a smooth consistency.
  • Apply the mask all over your hair in sections, starting at the roots and spreading the mixture to the tips. You do not need a lot of the mixture per section, just enough to coat the strand of hair.
  • Put a plastic bag or plastic shower cap over your hair and leave the mixture in for about an hour, you can leave it in longer if you prefer.
  • Rinse the mixture out with lukewarm water after about an hour and lightly shampoo your scalp, if your scalp does not do well with conditioner. If your scalp has no problem with conditioner, then it won’t be necessary. This is up to your personal preference.

The reason why this works great is because the hair mask functions as a deep conditioner with an optimal ph level! Honey has a ph of about 4/4.5 and your hair has a ph of about 4.5-5.5. This combination of honey and conditioner adds moisture and brilliant shine to your hair!
